Food for your Libido
Whether we want to admit it or not, sex plays an important part in any romantic relationship.
Since we want to help keep your proverbial home fires burning, here are some foods to eat – and some to avoid – which will help your sex drive, and overall attraction, for each other stay high.
Increased Energy
Eat: Sirloin Steak
Protein naturally boosts levels of two chemicals in the brain (dopamine and norepinephrine) that heighten sensitivity during sex….never a bad thing. Steak also provides your body with Zinc.
….Zinc is important because it reduces production of the hormone prolactin, a hormone that’s been shown to interfere with sexual arousal, which could be a real downer.
And I mean that literally.
Avoid:Energy Drinks
Even though caffeine and sugar will give you tons of energy at first, you’re heading for a big crash once they wear off. Scientists also found diets high in sugar temporarily lower testosterone levels, which will sap your sex drive (this effects both men and women).
Besides….is being overly-hyper from an energy drink ever really a turn-on?
To help relax and reduce inhibitions
Drink: One glass of wine
With many of us stressed because of work, family or school, finding a way to relax and reduce inhibitions can definitely help increase any couple’s sex life.
The good new is University of Toronto researchers found one alcoholic drink causes blood vessels to relax. Also, small amounts of alcohol act as a mild depressant in the brain’s cerebral cortex, which helps lower people’s inhibitions.
Woo-hoo! This could be a good time to mention that certain something you’ve been afraid they’d say no to….
Avoid: An entire bottle of wine
Or an entire large bottle of any alcohol, for that matter. The same University of Toronto researchers mentioned above also found drinking more than two glasses of alcohol reverses the nice, feel-good effects of just one or two alcoholic drinks.
This is something most of us can attest to after seeing friends drink far too much. There’s a big difference between being relaxed and being (literally) numb and annoying.

Always good to know what foods will help or hurt us in the love department
God, no kidding about the energy drinks! Those things make me super “up” and then I feel like I need a nap just a few hours later.
But I’m glad I have an excuse to drink a little wine now!
Christopher – Yes, knowing what foods are good or bad is definitely helpful!
Jill – I’ve had that experience with energy drinks, too…I’ve had ones in the late morning, and by mid afternoon I’m ready for a nap.
Oops! Guess I’m all wrong for good sex, because I dislike steaks and avoid alcohol. Haha!
LOL! Luckily, those aren’t the only two ways to have good energy or stay relaxed!
If you told me creamed spinach and buttermilk mashed potatoes also increased sex drive, I’d be one very happy camper right now!
As it is, I guess I’ll just have to make do with two of my very favorite foods – steak and red wine!
Hmmm…steak and wine…..you’re right, there definitely could be worse things to “have” to eat!
